Background:
The National Endowment for the Humanities approached University of the Arts to submit a grant proposal for a large complex exhibition. The overall premise of the exhibition is to introduce audiences to controversial topics, the draft global theme is “Averting Your Eyes: Exhibiting Things You’d Rather Not Notice”.
“Coming Home” is an exhibition to improve the re-integration of veterans and how they are perceived in American society, shedding light on their current quality of life.
Big Idea:
I did not realize how much more we can do for the veterans.
Goals:
- Visitors will feel a connection to veterans.
- Visitors will understand how to better help the veterans.
- Visitors will resolve prior misconceptions regarding veteran care.
Objectives:
- Visitors will differentiate between physical and psychological issues associated with veterans.
- Visitors will be able to show their support in numerous ways.
- Visitors will engage in discussion about contemporary and history war-related controversies.


Soldiers can submit their own “selfie” images to promote a fuller understand of self-image and agency is renewed.

A digital touchscreen that shows the less-than-hospitable conditions of the Walter Reed NMMC Room. Visitors touch problematic areas of the room and assign how the room can be improved.
